Every once in a while, everyone gets in the mood to redecorate their living space to freshen things up. While completely redoing the room can cost an arm and a leg, you can make significant decor updates that will have you feeling like you’re in a new room. Best of all, these tips will not cost you at all.
Designer Marie Flanigan says: “It’s amazing how much life is breathed into a space when you incorporate elements from nature.” She’s totally right, and before you splurge on that expensive plant, take a look in your backyard. She continues: “Head to your backyard and trim a beautiful tree branch — or look for one along the street — to display in a vase.” You can also use twigs and branches as a pretty focus piece on a coffee table.
Center Your Furniture
Designer Elizabeth Krueger shares her favorite secret to reinvigorating a living space: “Pull all of your furniture off of the wall and then move pieces around to create a moment in the center of the room. Allowing for circulation around the seating arrangement will make the room feel more spacious.” Don’t underestimate this, it can make a huge difference in the room’s ambiance.
Change Up Pillow Scheme
If you’re feeling tired of your throw pillows, shift them around from room to room. Designer Emily Spanos of Emily June Designs suggests: “Switch up the throw pillows from room to room in the house. Pair them differently to find fresh color and pattern combinations that work together.”
Stagger Floating Shelves
Rehanging floating shelves can help redesign your living space without having to spend any money. Reconfiguring your shelves to find full decorative potential can make all the difference. Designer Domonique Brielle Fluker of DBF Interiors says: “Intentionally placing floating bookshelves at different heights creates visual interest and sets the tone of symmetry throughout a living room.”
